What should I expect during my virtual guest speaking session?
-
Our recruitment partners often spend about 45 minutes guest speaking with our students in a virtual session. Recruiters are welcome to use a format that works for them, or we can make recommendations. Typically, the recruiter spends the beginning of the session sharing more about their organization, types of positions sought, and ways to apply.
Then, the recruiter often takes questions from the audience, which vary from interview tips, to questions about the organization or open positions, or general questions about tech careers. You are welcome to bring a slide deck too but it is not required!
There are typically between 30 to 50 students present at any given session. -
Depending upon the timing of your visit, students may be approaching the end of the program and have already earned at least one CompTIA certification. For more information about the training curriculum, visit the TechWorks site.
Students enter the program with strong customer service and communication skills, as well as a dedication to technology and bettering their career. Most do not have a college degree nor formal work experience in IT. However, they usually have strong hobby-level tech skills (e.g., have built their own desktop or are their family’s go-to tech support resource) -
After booking your visit, you will receive a Teams link to access the virtual room. There will be at least one program staff member present, typically the lead trainer, who will introduce you and have prepped the students for your visit.
Our staff will help moderate your session. -
To help connect qualified candidates to you, please plan to share relevant contact information during the sessions and/or describe how students should apply to any relevant job openings.
